Product description

Recommended for cavity filling for infected wounds

The design and structural integrity of the dressing allow one to cut the dressing to fit wounds of any size, shape and depth.

Patented wound dressing containing a silver complex with a broad antimicrobial profile

Biatain® Alginate Ag provides continuous antibacterial effect during the entire wear time (up to 7 days) (2).

High dressing integrity

The high dressing integrity allows for one-piece removal with minimal pain and trauma (1).

Minimised risk of leakage and maceration

The absorption of Biatain® Alginate Ag (1) and the gel formation lock exudate inside the gel, preventing leakage that can cause maceration of the skin around the wound.

Documented haemostatic effect

Contrary to hydrofibre dressings, Biatain® Alginate Ag has a documented haemostatic effect, i.e. ability to arrest blood flow in minor bleedings (4,5).

Mode of action

On contact with wound exudate, Biatain® Alginate Ag changes into a soft, cohesive gel that conforms closely to the wound bed for infection control. The silver complex releases ions in the presence of wound exudate.

Product composition

Biatain® Alginate Ag is an alginate dressing consisting of alginate, carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and an ionic silver complex.

Biatain® Alginate Ag can be used on all moderate to heavily exuding partial to full thickness wounds. Biatain® Alginate Ag may be used on infected wounds or wounds at risk of infection. Biatain® Alginate Ag can be used under compression bandages. Biatain® Alginate Ag should not be used on dry or lightly exuding wounds, or to control heavy bleeding. Biatain® Alginate Ag is indicated for leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, donor sites, traumatic wounds, and second-degree burns.
